London to Paris Cycle Challenge 2014

After successfully completing our first 100 mile cycle in 2013 the ‘CFM cycling team’ was looking for a new challenge for 2014 when one of our ‘team’ suggested that we participate in the London to Paris Cycle.

For those of you who don’t know what this involves, we will be cycling 300 miles over 4 days starting in the early hours from Crystal Palace and finishing at the Eiffel Tower in Paris four days later with overnight stops over in Calais, Abbeville and Beauvais to rest our weary legs.

Meningitis Now

The charity that we have selected to raise money for is Meningitis Now. Meningitis Now was formed in 2013 by the bringing together of Meningitis UK and Meningitis Trust. They exist to save lives and rebuild futures by funding research, raising awareness and providing support.

We selected this particular charity because one of our team, Neil Gore, has personal experience of the dangers of Meningitis when his daughter was born with the illness in 2012. Thankfully due to the care and attention she received in hospital she recovered and is now happy and healthy.

Many however are not so lucky. Children under the age of 5 are the most at risk group for Meningitis, with over 50% of all cases occurring in this age group.

Whilst there are several vaccines available to babies and toddlers in the UK, there isn’t a vaccine that protects against all strains. Therefore continued funding for research is vital to attempt to find vaccines to protect against all strains of Meningitis.

Our minimum fundraising target is £8,700, however, we want to raise as much as we possibly can for this worthwhile cause. As such if you are able to help please visit our fund raising page at and donate as much as you can afford. Every little helps!

Lastly, if you are sponsoring us and you are a UK taxpayer then please select the gift aid option. Gift Aid is a way for charities to increase the value of monetary gifts from UK taxpayers by claiming back the basic rate tax paid by the donor on the donation. It can increase the value of donations by a quarter at no extra cost to the donor.

We thank you in advance for your support and will update our website with our progress.
